SafeLink Guard – Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2025-09-09
This Privacy Policy explains how the SafeLink Guard browser extension (the "Extension") processes information to help protect you from phishing, scams, and malicious websites.
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not install or use the Extension.
Summary
- We do not sell or share your personal data.
- We do not use your data for advertising or tracking.
- Automatic checks send only the site origin (scheme + hostname) to our security API.
- Manual page scans send the full page URL, only when you explicitly request it.
- Verdicts are cached locally on your device for performance and can be cleared at any time.
- Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS).
What We Process
The Extension processes the following, strictly to provide its security functionality:
- Automatic checks (on first visit to a domain): Site origin only, e.g.
https://example.com
(scheme + hostname)
- Manual scans (when you click "Scan this page"): Full page URL, e.g.
https://example.com/path?query=...
- Local settings and cache:
- Your appearance preferences (e.g., colors, thickness, toggles)
- Domain-level verdict cache stored in your browser’s local storage
- Optional API secret (if you set one), stored locally on your device
We do not collect names, emails, account identifiers, advertising IDs, or browsing history beyond the single origin/URL being checked.
How We Use Information
- To determine whether a site appears safe or potentially dangerous and show an on-page indicator (green bar for safe; red border/warning for danger).
- To speed up browsing by caching recent domain verdicts locally (default TTL up to 24 hours).
- To apply your local appearance and behavior settings.
Data Retention
- Local cache and settings remain on your device until you clear them (via the Extension UI or by removing the Extension).
- Requests to the security API are processed in real time; we do not retain personal data server-side beyond what is necessary to perform the check and maintain basic service integrity (e.g., transient logs and anti-abuse controls).
Sharing and Selling
- We do not sell personal data.
- We do not share data with third parties for advertising or profiling.
- We may share minimal, necessary information with infrastructure providers (e.g., cloud hosting) strictly to operate the service.
Legal Bases (EEA/UK)
Where applicable, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Legitimate interests: providing website safety checks and protecting users from fraud and abuse.
- Consent: where you explicitly trigger manual scans or enable optional features.
International Transfers
We may process data on servers located outside your country. We use reasonable measures to safeguard transfers, including encrypted transport and reputable cloud providers.
Security
- All requests are sent over HTTPS.
- The Extension uses least-privilege permissions and a strict content security policy.
- Sensitive values you provide (e.g., an optional API secret) are stored only on your device unless you remove them.
Your Choices
- Disable or uninstall the Extension at any time.
- Clear the local verdict cache via the Extension UI.
- Adjust settings (e.g., hide the safe indicator, change colors, toggle loader, edit warning text).
- Avoid manual scans if you do not wish to send full page URLs.
Children’s Privacy
The Extension is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Effective date." Continued use of the Extension after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
